Filling the internet need 1/3

See the need, Fill the Need” — Robots Movie (2005)

Having seen the movie, I figured I’d offer some insights into how to create demand for your site. Yes it is something that comes with knowing your client or I should call them web users. If it wasn’t for these people, you wouldn’t have a reason to blog. I don’t say that lightly, you would still have a desire to blog but that in itself wouldn’t get your where you are today.

[ad]

Where are you today?

Are you not getting the desired Google hits or even yahoo search hits. I’ve found that having them look at my site it is the matter of what the current web user is looking for. Most of the time on my website, they come here to find out how to and Hulu information. I am not a big blog, I’ve got my readers who come to my site regularly and those who are what I like to call a hit and miss. They are the ones that come to my site and then leave not doing anything but looking for a particular information or a how to. They don’t care what your blog is about, they want to get in and fix there problem and will probably not remember anything about your site. This is to be expected. Most people use Google religiously and not sites.

What do you mean people use Google more often?

I’ve seen so many people use Google to get to my site. They put in tech-linkblog, techlinkblog, tech link blog, and so on. I have so many people do that sometimes, I wonder if I should come up with an easier name. Is having an easier name to remember much better or do they use Google? Using Google isn’t bad, it’s easiest to do because when you start up your Firefox Browser. It automatically start up with:

This is the common start up page for Mozilla Firefox.  So you can see how easy it is to use google when you need to find something really quickly.

How do I serve the other blogs?

I’m am betting you are wondering why you want to support other blogs? It’s something that comes with understanding the web users. It comes with the territory. We know that most web users want content and have links to other web sites just to give people the chance to find some good content. I am not going to say you need to create the best content but having content is implied to having the best possible content for people to find your blog.

This is going to be a 3 part blog discussing this very topic and my thoughts on this.   Keep watching for the next 2 parts of this to come in the next two days.

Turn Aero OFF at will!!

Turn Aero ON/OFF at Will

A site talk about this really cool Regedit. To Do this you will need to do some things.   Check out the full article at  PC Heaven for the Reg Hack.  I did the hack and it worked.  I know have a way to turn off and on Aero when I’m on the road.  I don’t have to worry about battery life for my Vista laptop.  This should increase my battery life and extend my time on the system without slowing me down!!

Apple Installs software without your Knowledge!

Mobile Me installed in the Control panel!!

Apple decides to install mobile Me, without permission!!

The latest update to Itunes 7.7.0.43 also installs this little program into the preference control panel of your Vista Premium operating system.  It has me irritated by it.  I didn’t ask about this or want this to be in the installed.  So what does this mean?

[ad]

Apple expects everyone to pay 99$/Year for this service!

Yes that’s right.  If you use Itunes, Apple expects you to have an IPOD or a mac.  That also makes me mad.  I don’t want that on my system.  I am sure you also would like to get rid of that too, so here is how!!

Uninstall Apple Mobile Devices from your add/remove programs section.

[Classic View] Start > Control Panel > Program & Features> Find Apple Mobile Devices and Click Uninstall

[or]

Start > Control Panel > Uninstall programs > Find Apple Mobile Devices and Click Uninstall

After you uninstall the program just refresh your control panel screen by pressing F5 or right click and click refresh.  It should disappear.

Should Apple be allowed to install that without permission?

I say no, I would like them to address this issue.  I don’t want to have to keep uninstalling this Apple Mobile Device program every time they have an update.  I could not update the software but that means I’d be leaving myself to vulnerabilities.

What are you thoughts on this little problem??

I am asking my readers what they think about this? Do you think this is a security flaw? You think someone could hack into your account with just a robot. Does it remain active if you are using it but restart the computer or do you have to put in the password every time it boots? These are just the questions that I have. What’s your questions?

*Side Note*

If you have an I-POD or an I-Phone, I am not sure what this will do with syncing so if you have any problems you should just be able to reinstall Itunes 7.7.0.43 and should work.  This is for people like me or doesn’t have an I-Pod or I-Phone.  If you do unistall it and have this let me know how it works by leaving a comment.

Adobe Flash tips and Tricks!

Having been using Hulu for the last few months, I’ve had to tweak the Flash Player and I’d thought I share some tips to get your movies and shows to run smoother on some systems.  I will say this, it is not some times the system but the connection to the Internet.  Bandwitdth, for some shows are sometimes the hardest part of getting to watch the show.

From time to time, Check for updates:

Having updates will sometimes resolve the most common issues with the Flash player.  I’ve had that happen in the past, a certain version would not work right with my system.   After updating on those occasions, I’d be ready go!!  So here’s the website to go to download and install the latest version:

Download and Install Adobe Player

[ad]

Why should I have to check it from time to time?

Adobe seems to not want to tell you if you have the lastest version.  So I’ve got a schedule to check it ever month and see if I have the latest version.  How can you figure that out? By downloading and installing.  If you’ve got the current version then you do not have to install it again!!

Put more access on storage!

Currently we have Terabyte hard drives, so we can have the system store more information on our hard drive.  I’m not saying that does not come without some security risk, but I do have a better time with streaming video.  By making more space available for the flash player to use, you can sometime cut down on connection speed and reliability.  I’ve had instances that once I’ve changed the amount of space for a website, I’ve gotten better video and watching experiences.  How you may ask by doing two things:

Going to your favorite video website > Run a video > Right Click on Video > Click Settings

Slide the bar to where you want it.  The default is 100 Kilobytes, I’ve got it set to 10 Megabytes.  I’ll let you choice how much.  It just depends on the space and how much your willing to give up.

[ad]

Then you have to direct yourself to the adobe website and do the same there.  You have to put add the information to the cloud you could say.  Here’s the link, you can always get there by either visiting the Adobe website or clicking on the advanced tab in the settings manager.

http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager.htm

[ad]
You would then go to the website storage tab or link and go there and slide the bar to where you’ve put the other one or give it more.  You then would want to make sure adobe is using your hardware acceleration for playing movies and video.

Make sure yours has the Check Mark!!
Sometimes it is easier just to clear the Cache!

Yes, I did say clear the Flash player cache.  Here is how you do it.  You will have to go the settings manager website. The Cache is in the storage settings manager.  Then click on Delete all sites.  It will ask if your sure.  You say yes, and it’s done.

After that you should have some smoother sailing with Hulu and other websites that require flash. It isn’t hard to do but it is sometimes a pain because you have to from time to time clear out that cache on the website. If anyone else can come up with some good tips throw them out my way. Share your tips with the world.

Does your DNS still have flaws?

Late the week, I’ve had some concern with the DNS flaws with my ISP.  So I’ve change to another DNS.  So I went and did a test at:

Doxpara

So what does this mean when it says I might be at risk?

Very simple, your DNS provider is not randomizing the ports.  I’ll get to that in a bit.

What is DNS?

The DNS is like a big Phonebook to where you tell it who you want to call, in this case go, and it finds the numbers and takes you there.  It’s like telling a cab driver where you want to visit, just like telling the cab driver to come to my site.  When you enter http://www.paulstechtalk.com into your browser, your telling DNS to go fetch the ip and direct your connection to this site.

So how can I fix this flaw?

Simple, You will need to direct yourself to OpenDNS.  Has Fixed the flaw to help protect you.  How do you use it?  You will tell your system to direct all the DNS queries through that then your ISP DNS.

So by using the openDNS, you will be bypassing the DNS flaws that you might of have. If you want to use that DNS server go to there website and it tells you step by step on how to do it with your own system.

The Nice thing about OpenDNS is they have so many features,  You can prevent phishing, adult sites, Domain blocking, and much more.  If you use this, you can prevent you kids from getting on the sites that you don’t want them to get on.  It lets you have control over what you want to do.  I recommend people to use OpenDNS.

What’s the DNS flaw?

I can’t explain it but maybe this can.  If you want to diqus this in the community you can go to:
