Updater.exe can’t be found Troubleshooting

So you wroke up with this problem, of can’t find the program called updater.exe or it tries to access the internet.  Here are some things you should check out to make sure it isn’t a virus:

  • [ad#cricket-right-ez][intlink id=”1802″ type=”post”]Hijackthis[/intlink] —  This will help determine if a virus changed the program.   You would need to check to see where this so called Updater is by search for it.
  • [intlink id=”2205″ type=”page”]Firewall and Anti-virus Software[/intlink] —  You should check to see if you have the updates for that or if you don’t you should have them installed.
  • [intlink id=”2205″ type=”page”]Do an online scan[/intlink] — This might also reveal if there is a virus or not.

It is most likely a Windows function but you should be cautious when things like this happen and you should check to make sure it is what it says it is.  Some people from WOW have had this problem in the past.  So it could just be a program that didn’t update the right way or a Trojan or Virus.  You should use [intlink id=”2883″ type=”post”]Autopatcher[/intlink] to patch your system to  be sure it is up to date.  Remember if the system isn’t patched that gives the Virus people a chance to install malware into your system and you know you don’t want that.

Extended Review : A600 Cricket modem

So I recently went around town with this the [intlink id=”3059″ type=”post”]A600[/intlink] and wanted to provide some insightful outcomes.  I used Speedtest.net like I did before and the results are:

speedtesta600Understanding the speeds.

As you can tell I was getting some really good speeds from this test.  It seems with the added length of the modem has also added a better antenna to the USB Modem.   Although you have to be[intlink id=”2484″ type=”post”] cautious about where you go and the coverage[/intlink] area. Please mak sur you are in the Cricket Coverage area I’ve been looking for a way to get an [intlink id=”2931″ type=”post”]extender for the modem[/intlink], but have not found a hole for it. So that might be out of possibilities.

What are some possible uses of this modem.

It having the capability to have an Micro SD card, There is a lot of potential for multiple uses of the modem.   In one of my other posts about [intlink id=”3171″ type=”post”]Backing up[/intlink], I talked about some of the more common programs you could use to keep your passwords on you from time to time.  I wanted to add on some other programs that might be useful for the person on the go who might work on computers:[ad#Cricket_USB_Modem]

  • Technibble’s Repair tool section — There are a bunch of good software picks to put on this little modem for use with fixing a hardware or software problem you might come across.
  • Portable Apps — This is a great little program that will allow you to have a wide variety of uses such as Mozzila Firefox, and Thunderbird.  There is even a portable Open Office suite so you will never need to have to worry about find a way to read an important document or creating a important document while on the road.
  • [intlink id=”2646″ type=”post”]Roboform[/intlink] — I use this all the time and if you need to keep your passwords safe this is the best solution.  It also has a portable version for your cell phone and an USB.  No more worrying about keyloggers and other such malware, this will increase your security.
  • [intlink id=”3067″ type=”post”]The A600 Programs[/intlink] — This is good for those times when the modem refuses to install the software.  You can always have the software available to install and use at your convenience.
  • Portable Skype — This is good for those who want to [intlink id=”2601″ type=”post”]use skype with the modem[/intlink].  Although you will have to make some modifications and it may or may not work.  I’ve got the full version of skype but I heard it can be done.
  • Wikipedia Of portable applications — this is a good resource to find out even more programs that might work on the USB Modem.  It after all can hold 4 gigabytes of data.  So there is room for several programs.

I recommend buying this very reliable modem. You should always double check to see if you are in the Cricket Coverage area. If you would like to see some other comments about the A600 please check out my [intlink id=”3059″ type=”post”]other review of this A600[/intlink], you will see some glowing recommendations from other people to buy this modem.

Free Syncronization and Backup programs

So I talked about finding some free backup utilities on the Mike Tech Show Listener Roundtable Show # 234.

I said I would publish some good free ones programs to backup your system files and I think I have done it.  Here’s are some great ones that I recommend for anyone who doesn’t want to pay for a backup program:

Allway Sync —  Works with Windows Vista/XP.  It supports : Hard Drives, Removable Hard Drives, Network Drives, Amazon S3, FTP Server, Offsitebox.com, and WEBDAV Folder.  This program is also quite portable and can be used on more than one computer with the portable version.[ad#text-broadband2]

ViceVersaWindows 98, Me, 2000, XP, Vista. Vice Verse FREE will compare files in two folders (source and target) and synchronize file differences.  There isn’t much else you can do with this but It does look to be good for small backups and older system.

Acebackups — is a powerful tool to create completely secure backups of your data. Store your data on any local storage device, on CD, DVD or on your remote FTP server!

The one I have been using that is the most useful for me is Allway Sync.  I have it set up to use my [intlink id=”3059″ type=”post”]A600 Cricket Modem w/the 4 Gig Mini SD card[/intlink] to back up my [intlink id=”2646″ type=”post”]Roboform[/intlink] Passwords.  I could buy the Roboform portable version and use this to keep backup’s on my hard drive.  Allway Sync also has a portable version for multiple computers.   I think this is the most versatile, for the needs of backup.  Something that I have done is backing up my important data to a portable Harddrive, Flash drive and backing up to a ftp server to make sure I don’t loose any data.  I have it set up to have redundancy.  You should always have more than one backup.

In the coming Miketechshow Listener Round Table Discussion, we will be talking about backing up and the need to back.  I encourage everyone to join on that discussion.  I would like to know what you do with how you back up and if you back up.  I’ll post the time and Date when I find out!!

ABC makes fun of fans with the ending of Kyle XY!

ABC Family must be loving the backlash of people complaining [ad#cricket-right-ez]about the Cliffhanger they left for Season 3 Episode 10 of Kyle XY “Bringing Down the House”. After seeing it there is to much left unsaid, what happens to Amanda and What about Josh and Andy?

It is deplorable the way they left it so many things in the air and yet gave the Secret Life more money to play with. Giving teenagers the idea that it is great to get pregnant and be like the Secret life, I love the morals of the company. If you want to see what people are saying just go to there forums. I am sure I am not the only one who is upset over the way they left this series. I am sure they ran out of money but could of at least picked it up to end it properly but they thought the fans wouldn’t know.

Well according to my screen shots they aren’t happy in the least:
Fans are upset over this!!

Some more fans complain

Fans lash out!!

ABCFAMILY didn’t expect fans to lash out, but they left so many questions in the open. We don’t know what happened to Kyles Family. I know the Company doesn’t consider streaming to be the next big step but it is. They don’t know people will watch it online. I encourage people to write and not watch ABCFamily shows for the time being they don’t deserve that viewers because they don’t care about them. They are in it for the Money and I will not support a company that does this to their viewers. This is at least until someone other company picks it up the END of Kyle XY. I encourage people to go to SaveKyleXy.Com to show support for the show and make a statement to ABCFAMILY by writing letters and commenting on their site about how you feel.

Dark Side of Adsense

As many of you know, I’ve wrote a blog postabout Adsense for Begginers.  I wrote this to try to make people see that Adsense isn’t all that bad.  I wanted to expand on this and talk about the Dark Side of Adsense.

AdSense is an advertisement application run by Google. Website owners can enroll in this program to enable text, image, and more recently, video advertisements on their websites. These advertisements are administered by Google and generate revenue on either a per-click or per-impression basis. Google beta tested a cost-per-action service, but discontinued it in October 2008 in favor of a DoubleClick offering (also owned by Google)

[Via Wikipedia]

Now we know that Google uses what we like to call a Per Click payment plan, that is to say on occasion you get paid for ratio of page views.  It can be 0.05$ or more, I don’t know how they figure it out but I do know there is more to this than what you see behind the Adsense.

[ad#ad2-right]I went on a journey to find out about Adsense and I stumbled across this post about Adsense Fraud.  I wanted to add to this by talking about why people are would do this even more.

I might not know a lot, but I do know that with the Recession still going on and people are trying to find ways around making money.  Some people have went to the Darkside of the money making idea.

Now we know that Adsense calculates your Pageviews with you click ratio or your Rate of Return.  I know Google has a very good Algorithm to use with figuring out what ads to place for each site.  You see I’ve recently gotten a lot of traffic to my site and all of the sudden my Ads I have on my site are more colorful.

I know Google might not admit it but I suspect they have several levels of tiers for ads.  I would only assume that if  a site has more pageviews, it would mean there is a more cost to put ads on the site.  Now we all know that Ad Space is valuable because the Ad helps drive traffic to the sites that  user or users are interested in.

Why people would want to go to the Darkside of Adsense is no mystery.  It all involves Money, We’ve heard it before and we will always hears this online.  Someone is making a fortune off of advertising a month.  It will be a big sum of money some have even boosted about it, 500$, 1000$. or more.

Making money is always going to be a long term goal, and anyone who you ask will say they worked for that money.  You can never really make money without working, it’s something that everyone has to learn.  You earn it every time you cut the grass or every time you go into work.  It takes three things:

  1. Time — is a component of the measuring system used to sequence events, to compare the durations of events and the intervals between them, and to quantify the motions of objects. Time has been a major subject of religion, philosophy, and science, but defining time in a non-controversial manner applicable to all fields of study has consistently eluded the greatest scholars
  2. Work — is a measure of the work done by human beings. It is conventionally contrasted with such other factors of production as land and capital. There are theories which have created a concept called human capital (referring to the skills that workers possess, not necessarily their actual work), although there are also counter posing macro-economic system theories that think human capital is a contradiction in terms
  3. Support —  is a social affinity in which one person stands with another person, closely understanding his or her feelings.

[ad#cricket-right-ez]It takes Time, yes I do mean this.  You can’t build a big website over night.  It takes several different things to make your website good.  The design is one, the name is another, and lastly it’s your personality that determines the way people will react when they come upon your site.  I’ve learn that the hard way,  when I first started blogging, I never got any major page views.  Then I went into working on my blog.

When I say work, I mean work.  You need to find where your best at and exploit it.  I don’t mean exploit it illegally but I do mean use it to bring out your website.  Like mine, I have been working hard at research finding website others would very rarely come across.    I also want to be able to teach people about blogging and instruct them in the proper way to blog.  I have made mistakes in my time and I can bet I will make mistakes in the future, so I always say that is always going to be a works in progress.

The final thing is Support, if you don’t have support from your returning readers you will never be able to advance in pageviews.  I mean that if your readers don’t recommend this to other people then no one will find out what your really like.  It all depends on the readers, they are who you are writing to and trying to make a connection.

I know I went on a Tanjent and I made this a rather long post, but I hope this helps you understand about Adsense and blogging.  These two actually have a great deal in common.  They both need those  Three steps to succeed.   It all depends on how much you want you accomplish.
