4 Essential Elements for Your Parents’ IT Care Package

Your parents know how to turn on the computer and are getting better at sending texts. But let’s face it, they are basically clueless when it comes to technology. Have you ever once seen your mom pick up that iPad you and your brother chipped in to get her for Christmas? Probably not unless she’s reading a book. She doesn’t know how to use it. Now that you’re away at college and the other kids are already out of the house, your parents are floating around in technological darkness.

Since you’re not at their beck and call for tech support anymore, give them a helping hand. They’ve sent you plenty of care packages of the comforts of home since you’ve been at school. Why not do the same for them with an IT care package? Include items allowing your parents to handle their Internet and tablet needs on their own (or by you, remotely).

Spyware Protection

Most parents don’t have a clue how to protect their computers from spyware. They may not even know how important it is to do that or how easy it is for someone to hack into their computer. Fortunately, you do know and you can help them. Teach them how to avoid spyware by sending them your favorite anti-spyware program with instructions for how to install and use it. Include the tech support number for their Internet service provider if they have any trouble removing existing spyware from their computer. They’ll love you for it once they realize how important this is to computer security.

Skype

It’s inevitable. Your parents will need personal help from you every now and then until you get them independent enough to handle computer issues on their own. Send them to Skype and instruct them to download it. If they have a real problem that only you can solve, they can have a face to face conversation with you and you can walk them through it until they get it right. Just make sure they know that Skype is like the Batphone as far as you’re concerned — they should only use it to contact you in a computer-based emergency. You’re not a one-person tech support department who is always on call and this is something your parents have to learn.

Remote Assistance

Sometimes, even an in-person conversation isn’t enough to help parents solve their tech problems. You’ve simply got to do it yourself. In the past, this might have been a problem if you were across the country at school. Now, you can take charge of your parents’ computer wherever you are with Remote Assistance for Windows. This will only work if they have a PC, but most parents aren’t Mac-savvy (as you discovered with the iPad incident).

Remote access can be installed on both your computer and theirs. You can use it to simply get into their computer and fix the problem for them. Remind them that this option is to be used even less frequently than Skype. Ask them to consider Remote Assistance the 9-1-1 call of tech support for you. There may be financial penalties for misusing it, just like in the real world, such as having to send you extra gas or grocery money this month.

Google

This is probably the simplest solution to any computer problem. It’s also the one your parents are most likely to overlook. Send them a big sticky note with the word Google.com written on it in their IT care package. Remind them that any tech question they have can often be answered by Googling it and then following the instructions found on a website Google provides. This should save a lot of unnecessary phone, Skype and Remote Assistance sessions with you, so you can finally untie those tech support apron strings and start to enjoy the college life at last, knowing your parents are on their way to becoming IT independent.

3 Goals for Google Play: More TV Categories, Better UI, and a Stricter App Policies!

Google Play needs improvement!

Lately, I’ve been thinking how Google play could be even better place.   I know I’m not the only one to think this and I’ve already talked about Google Play: TV and Movies but I thought it about it.   I’ve pretty much decided that I should tell you some other areas where Google needs to improve upon.   After all, if Google wants to win people over they will need to start out competing every one else.

Better User Interfaces!

I’m not saying that the UI has been disappointing but I will say that it needs much more work.   You can’t really expect to bring people to your side without some fixing of the UI.   I have tried to see where Google was coming in the past but it seems that everytime I try to figure that out, I get stuck and can’t go any farther.

Navigation!

It not asking to much I don’t think to be able to navigate through the Google Play store without having to keep going back to the beginning.   It would be nice to have more Swipe side to side to move between areas or places in the Google Play store!

I can do the swiping from side to side on certain areas of the Google Play store but it seems so unusual to do because you wouldn’t expect to do it in those areas so you have to look for clues.

More TV Categories!

I’ve suggested this to Google in the past and yet they still don’t want to implement this one.   It seems kinda strange not to want to add more TV Categories to there Video section but that just might be something that they are unwilling to do just yet.   They have it done that with the Movie section but not the TV Section of their Google Play Store!  I am only hoping they fix this and make it more user friendly and make it easier to find Shows that you may want to watch.   I’d love to see a Science Fiction Category but that isn’t something that is available just yet!

Stricter App Policies!

This one is the biggest and hardest to understand.  Lately the apps are getting rediculous and harder to find that are actually free.   Some Apps have in the past been consider malware, while others are claiming to be free but yet you really only get a DEMO of the APP.  Even one Reddit user has started keeping track of some of these Apps.

Even the Apps have been know to use push notification on Advertising, which seems kinda like a way for them to make money at our expense.   I hate those types where they just constantly send ads to your notification when your driving or doing something that your can’t be bothered with.   I had one game that would do that constantly and I removed it.   So when I say this shouldn’t be allowed, you see where Google needs to improve upon.

We know sex sells but let’s keep it out of the Google Play Apps and other places like that.   This should be a clean store and not having all the porn and stuff easily accessible to kids and teenagers.  If Google wants to make money this would be my first place to look to change.   Most people will go other places to buy their apps just to avoid all the problems you have with the Google Play store.

Best Advertising Practices for Affiliate Marketing!

Advertising is an Art form!

267232_300x250NewYearNot all things you do will be perfect and that goes along with Adsense.  Even the most professional blogger out there will tell you that how to put your Ad placements and which ones work.   It is after all more of person preferences than what works and what doesn’t.   It is something that will take a lot of time and patients to find out how to make money with Affiliate Marketing.  I’m however going to give you tips and tricks to help you get the most out of Affiliate Marketing in terms of making money!

What is a blogger to do?

When you think of a blog do you think it is people who are scheming to get your money.   Some would argue that this is the fundamental prospect of working on the Internet.   There by getting the clicks and the money for a link.  I am probably one of the few bloggers who want to be honest about my Affiliate Links but that is only because I think my readers should have the choice to click or not click on products that I recommend.   I will not recommend anything without at least doing all the research I can.   I have even tried some products out like the Glasses USA [Affiliate Link] and believe they are the best  choice out there for good quality frames and lens.

Recommendations for Other bloggers:

  • Be Honest — Honesty is the best policy!
  • Be transparent — Don’t try to sneak a link here and there hoping you get a few extra bucks.
  • Have Integrity — Don’t recommend something that you know anything about.
  • Commitment — Think of your readers and don’t over do the ads placement.
  • Create loyal readers — make connections and try to keep them wanting to come back and use your links.

These are what I call the simple truths to making money with your affiliate links.   I don’t think this is something that should be overlooked.   You will be more happier and make far more money if you try to keep an honest commitment to your readers.

Don’t be afraid to ask for support!

I occasionally like to remind my readers that supporting this site helps me keep this website alive and also helps to support my efforts.   So never be afraid to ask for help, you will be surprised what your readers will do to support your blog.   Don’t underestimate your readers because they are a valuable asset and should be treated as such.

Got any more tips?  If so just drop a comment.   I’m sure someone will find that useful maybe I will find it useful.

Dear my 21 Year Old Self! What I need to tell you now!

182/365 Sparkle (+2)

What you need to understand!

Writing isn’t an art per say, but it is something that grounds us into who we are today.   I know I have lost a lot but also I know I’ve gained alot since I was 21 years old.   That is why I’m making this post, not just for me but to help you connect with me the steps I did and why it was so heart wrenching that I’d have to post about it.   Nothing in this post will be talking about technology but it will be somewhat related to technology.   After all, if I wasn’t born this website would not exist.   So in a way I guess it is talking about technology.

The Wonder Years!

When I was a boy, I thought like a boy.   When I was a teen, I thought like a teen.   When I was 21, I had great expectations and hopes and dreams.   Nothing in my wildest dreams would I of known where I would be when I was 21, where I am now.    That is the what usually happens when your young.   You got all these things you would like to do or see and they just don’t turn out the way you planned.
I got out of High school and was planning to go to college.   I was actually just about to start college when I met a certain girl.  We will call her “A“.  It was a whirl wind romance, fell in love and didn’t really have time to think about the future we got into this really well so well, she was pregnant before we were even married.   We had Three beautiful kids and I adore them every chance I get.   The problem with this marriage is we never got along and that might be the fact we never really communicated the way we should of.   I am not going to say it was all her fault, that would be wrong on my part.  We both had something to do with this because it does take two to make a baby.

The Marriage Years!

I’ve already talked about Eight things you didn’t know about me.   It was however a small amount about me.   I was and am still concerned some security but I also would like to share with you my life experience in hopes that you don’t make the same mistakes as I have.  Me and my Ex-wife, yes you heard it right, would always yell and argue with me over the stupidest stuff.   I think we sometimes just argued just to communicate.   She expected all this stuff from me and I guess I did the same thing back. I just know that communication is the one thing that if I ever get married again, I will find someone who believes as I do and wants to communicate and not just stay on the computer all the time.  This was a problem for both of us, I guess we didn’t really want to communicate.  I really shouldn’t say didn’t because it was more of a inability to communicate is more like it.  We never while dating ever really communicated and thus it made our marriage that much harder to deal with.

Single Years again!

Well myself, I just hope you see what you have to go through in the next 15 years and to hopefully learn some very important lessons.   When you finally start to date again, I hope you learn to communicate and talk to your next mate.   This way you can know just how well you will do with this person and maybe even find your soul mate.   I just hope you find someone to cuddle with and be happy with.   You deserve to be happy and I know how that feels.  Please understand that the search for this mysterious women is a long process, but when you find that one person it will be worth it.  Please keep laughing and don’t forget to stop and smell the roses!
