Roku looking good, Now for some Independents!!

I have in the past talk about Roku and Hulu.   Since We are starting to see Hulu Plus channel in the line up, I wanted to talk about how studio’s are wasting their money by not going to the Roku!!

Studio’s don’t know the potential!

Now I am not saying that studio’s aren’t making but they are at least loosing some great potential cross show advertising.    If let’s say Discovery Channel would come to Roku, they could easily add advertising for other shows that you might want to watch from their channel.  After all, they do have shows like Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs that could easily cross advertise each other.    I simply love Mythbusters and have already subscribed to season 9 of it, so you can see that no matter how they do it they would still be making money.

Then you could also consider cross advertising from studio, if more studio’s would come on board then that would be a great way to bring in more viewers.  Although most studios will argue about revenue and I totally understand that, they could easily just go back to the television standard advertising but I think most want to be able to know what sells and what doesn’t.

Advertisers need to get aboard fast!

Since Hulu is definitely coming to Roku, we have to ask what advertisers to do? Will they come to the Roku??  I would say they will go where the shows go.   That being said some of them might even flock or run to Hulu as soon as they realize how many people are actually watching Netflix in the US alone!  That being said, I fully expect Roku to be in every home in 10 years.  Although that is just a really good guess, I would imagine most people will agree that if Roku keeps adding content it will be more of a demand!!

We will see more independents studios come aboard!

Studios like Syfy Channel, Discovery Channel, Disney Channel, and channels like TNT, HBO, and Nickelodeon will flock to the Roku or even pay Hulu to be part of the Hulu plus.  Now I don’t expect them to be on board any time soon, I think once Hulu becomes widely used on the Roku that these other small studio’s and channels will see the benefit of streaming their media to the Roku box.   Most of these sites already have a way for you to watch them on their own site in one form or another with advertising!  If Google TV doesn’t worry these studio’s and channels then I would expect them to jump aboard soon!

Eureka — An enigma wrapped in a mystery box hidden inside a paradigm!

All this weekend I have been watching the series Eureka thanks in part to Netflix making it available and I must say the show is quite itneresting.   I don’t know what people know about it but what Wikipedia says about it is:

Eureka (stylized as EUReKA) is an American science fiction television series that premiered on Syfy on July 18, 2006, and since then three full seasons have aired, and a fourth is currently being aired. The show is set in a fictional town called Eureka, Oregon in the Pacific Northwest inhabited almost entirely by geniuses and scientists. Nearly everyone in Eureka works for Global Dynamics, a huge advanced research facility responsible for the development of all major technological breakthroughs in the last 50 years. Each episode features a mysterious accidental or intentional misuse of technology which is then solved by the town Sheriff, Jack Carter with the help of town scientists. Each season also features a larger story arc concerning a particular major event or item.

Although I must say when I first heard of this show, I had my reservations that being said.   It was because of the fact that I had never heard or seen any of the show before.   I like this show for several reasons and I will be glad to discuss this with my readers.

We get to see great Guest stars!!

If you thought there weren’t going to be any stars like Michael Shanks or Teryl Rothery.  These two guest stars were on one of the episodes and it was quite nice to see them again.   I must say seeing Lexa Doig on this show for two episodes was quite an interesting change of events.   I won’t go into details as to what these all did but I did think they are  one reason wy I liked the show now then I did when I first heard about the show.   Although admittedly, I grew to like the show after the first couple of shows watching it on Netflix.  It did seem to grow on me!!

It has cool technology!!

Let’s face it, I love to see what they might be able to come up with and this shows delivers this.  For example, I have a house that talks and communicates and what is called a Smart House, able to anticipate several different possibilities the instant you get home.   Now this is just one of the many things we see in the series but yet the writers make it believable.  I have to admit some of the stuff in this series is something that you want to believe just because it is possible.

Each seasons there is an arch!!

I like this series because of the way they integrate a season with answering several different ways.   One way they make the viewer want to come back is drawing you into the whole storyline where as you can’t wait for the season to end just to find out what they asked in the beginning of the season.     I also like how they have to solve a problem and make you feel like there is some kind of hope at the end of every show.   This makes me think that we aren’t alone in the world and universe.

I won’t go into more detail of the show because I don’t want to spoil it but I must say everything that I have seen has me subscribing to even more seasons of the show later on when they come out.   They have already said they will be producing season 5 of this show and they are currently airing season 4 on Syfy.   So at least you can watch it there if need be.

Achievecard in the Mail and they have my Social Socurity Number?? WTH??

As you can see Achieve Card sent my wife an unsolicited mail with this card in it.   In order to “activate it” You must your last 4 of your Social Security Number!!  Now I talked about Netspend doing this also but they didn’t keep the IP‘s of who referred them.   This seems to be the same way and I am very concerned.   I would like to stop these companies from getting my Social or my wife’s Social.

Don’t tell me you don’t have my Social, You just tell me you do!!

When I made the blog post about Netspend, There was a comment from Staff101 and he said they didn’t have my social but if that is the case with this card. Then why would they have the pin being the last 4 of my SSN(see picture above)?? Again, if you are going to comment telling me that you don’t have my social. Your gravely mistaken, and that really concerns me and others. My privacy and security is essentially something that I take seriously. I haven’t called this company because they are probably like Netspend and will tell me they don’t have the information on who gave them the information. I am not happy and would like to find the person/company doing this. This seems to be a continuing problem.
