Codes you will need for the ZTE AWE!

Codes you should know!

From time to time, I occasionally like to look up codes for new phones like the ZTE AWE and keep them handy. I found some really good codes tha tyou may need in the future.   I also like to know which codes are used for certain purposes.   In this article I will tell you which codes you will need to use with Virgin Mobile USA and this will hopefully help you before you call Virgin Mobile with your phone problems.   You never know when these codes will be useful but it should at least help you get what you want from your phone!

Codes

Before I begin, I will remind all readers that you use these codes at your own risk and I can’t be held responsible for any thing you aciddently delete!

Factory Reset — *983*57#  (Will delete all you personal files and information off the phone.  Do not use unless you need to!)

IMSI (international sematech manufacturing initiative) — *983*36401*01#  Sometimes Virgin Mobile will need this to help solve your problem and thus you should either know the code or have your IMSI written down to make it quicker for them to help you!

IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) —*#06#  Good for the same purpose as the IMSI but it mostly what is requested by Virgin Mobile.

Mutliple Menus and Information — *97*0#  This is very good code for finding out the Wifi MAC Address for those wifi networks that are limited by which mac address are allowed on that wifi network.   So you may need this information from time to time.   It also shows your batter information and how good the health of your battery!

Phone Device Information *983*5182# very good to know you model number and which android OS your are using with what Kernel are being used currently on your phone!.   You may need thise for Virgin Mobile USA but that depends on how much information they need!

In order to use these codes you will need to go to phone dialer to use these codes.

Another good TIP:

If you are wanting to send a file or photo to your phone you can easy do this by emailing the phone.   This is also very useful for those times when you need to know what is going on very quickly with maybe your bank account activity or something really serious.   Just send an email to: [10-digit phone number]@vmobl.com.   Just a reminder it comes over a text message(SMS) and thus you only get the first 180 characters or so.   It however can be quite useful for sending files to your phone by attachment or when you need to keep on top of a service or server and keep it from going down.   This is one of the mostly used tips in my library for my business or other such problems.  Can be quite useful when you need to keep on top of important things!

Well this pretty much does it for what you might need for Virgin Mobile USA customer support.   I am sure I have missed something but this will at least get you a head start when you call them.   You can be ready to tell them all this information and not have to wait.

Microsoft Today has released the list of patches for February. Here’s the List of things they will patch:

[ad#ad2-right]

The list of affected operating configurations includes Windows 2000, Windows XP (x86 and x64), Windows Server 2003 (x86 and x64), Windows Vista (x86 and x64), and Windows Server 2008 (x86 and x64). Microsoft Exchange Server 2000, 2003, and 2007, Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and 2005, as well as Visio 2002, 2003, and 2007 are also affected.

We got several Non-critical updates.  Here’s the List of them, some of these are monthly updates and some are just interesting to look at:

  • Update for Windows Mail Junk E-mail Filter [February 2009] (KB905866)
  • Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool – February 2009 (KB890830)/Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool – February 2009 (KB890830) – Internet Explorer Version
  • Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB960544)
  • Cumulative Update for Media Center TVPack for Windows Vista (KB958653)
  • Update Rollup for ActiveX Killbits for Windows (KB960715)

We got an Update to Media Center and TVPack for Windows Vista to resolve issues with software.   The ActiveX Killbits issues have been identified in ActiveX controls that could allow an attacker to compromise a system that is running Microsoft Internet Explorer and gain control over it.  So we don’t exactly know what what issues they are talking about.   I hope this helps your system administrators get ready for this update.  If I were you, I’d having Clone of Autopatcher ready for these updates.  Remember to patch as soon as your company will allow, because waiting to long could make you have even more of an headache.   I’ll update the others as soon as I find out the updates.

Security Researchers warn of potential flaws in Windows

I read an article today from Techworld. I wanted to Discuss this in detail. I also found some links that suggest that Techworld is right.

Andrew Storms, director of security operations at nCircle Network Security, speculated that the latest bugs were found by researchers using information disclosed in SMB fixes Microsoft released in October and November.[va Techworld]

According to my investigation, and I have been looking. I found a few SMB Vulnerabilities. One of them is CVE-2008-4835 and CVE-2008-4834. These two are capable of Remote Code Execution, and are Consider very High on the Impact list and all.

So Did people find these exploits or vulnerabilities from the last MS 08-067 patch? I would have to conclude it is a real possibility.

Although Microsoft did patch those holes this month.  I grow to wonder just how much these hackers keeping the IT professionals on there toes.    I hope people updated their system to prevent another worm because you don’t want the worm like Downadup Do you?  I am sure there will be a worm or a virus that will exploit this in time, and I think sooner or later someone will use this just like the other one.

Microsoft to Release KB961051 on the Dec 17, 2008

According to McAfee and I will quote:

December 16, 2008: Microsoft has announced an out-of-cycle patch release for a critical, remote-code-execution, vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer (CVE-2008-4844). The patch, to be released on December 17, will address the vulnerability across multiple versions on Internet Explorer running on supported Windows platforms.

[ad#ad2-right]From what I am understanding it will be KB961051 and will be a critical update on all Windows platforms.  Microsoft issued a security advisory for this on there Technet support website.   This will probably be put online sometime tomorrow and will be available to download after 10am PST although this is just a rumor because when I go to that article they talk about the work around and how to fix it temporary until they release the patch.  This is releated to the IE Vulnerability that is in the wild and has been causing havok on the internet.
