Star Trek: Into the Darkness is better the awesome! (Redone)

Got off from work!

I really wasn’t sure if I would be able to get into seeing this movie. I’d thought this would be packed and no available tickets. I was surprised to see how sparse it was at the theatre. I admit I went right before the 5 o’clock rush hour. I really thought it would be a line of people waiting to get into the movies. I was disappointed about that particular dream. I wanted to think this movie was going to draw people in like Star Wars did in the 1980’s and 1990’s. It was only a dream, I guess.

May contain Spoilers!

I won’t say this will be a total spoil free review or even a try to prevent this. It is after all going to spill out because I can’t really make points without talking about the movie. So if you feel you can’t take the spoilers. You best bet is to go to another email. I am sorry but that is just me!

From Iron Man to Star Trek

When I first started talking about Iron Man 3, I got a lot of activity from people who wanted to know about Science Fiction. I did know I wanted to go see the movies and thought this email group would be good for that. So I thought about it and wanted to make it a possibility. Well you are looking at it now!

Physics and Enterprise

Upon starting off on this movie, their is some great scenery of a people we have yet to encounter in this great Star Trek universe. That being beside the point we also see Enterprise under water with pounds of pressure on the ship. I really can’t say if this is possible, but if we really did the math on this. You would be saying “Hmm” too. I am sure the ship wouldn’t be able to survive. If I remember right Gizmodo did something similar to with Kirk surviving jumping out of a moving motor vehicle. I fancy myself as being logical so this kind of thing did strike me rather peculiar that they thought this was a possibility. Role

Reversal Roles

If you haven’t seen the movies or the shows then you might not get how some of the roles that happen in this movie were completely reversed. I won’t say the names but I actually loved the concept of this. We do however get to see a small glimpse of Leonard Nimoy but it wasn’t like he was their the whole movie. Just a scene or two with the other Spock. We also get to see a glimpse of how the Chain of Command is supposed to work and why it is a necessary evil to some and others it is just necessary. I honestly believe this movie had some great examples of this throughout. We get to see Kirk saving Spock, and Spock saving Kirk, a rather symbiotic relationship. Not knowing who will actually save the day. Kept me on the edge of my seat all through the movie.

Enterprise NCC-1701

The Enterprise is a beautiful ship. I love how J. J. Abrams did the ship and a lot of the CGI that came along with it. You almost wish this was the ship we saw in the old series. You long for the day that we go back to where everything began. I must say the time paradox has resolved itself nicely. It isn’t as pronounced as it was in the first movie but you still get the feeling something isn’t quite right.

Final Thoughts

I will recommend this to anyone who likes Star Trek and Science Fiction. If you liked the first movie, you will definitely like the this movie. I do hope I didn’t spoil it for anyone. It was just some total good and nice that I will be buying this when it comes out on DVD or maybe the just the Digital version. If you know someone who might like this movie just let them read this themselves and maybe helped someone find the pleasure of Science Fiction.

April is Autism Awareness Month: How you can help!

 Autism Facts!

Autism now affects 1 in 88 children and 1 in 54 boys

Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.

Boys are nearly five times more likely than girls to have autism

Autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases

As you can see these are just a few facts that you may of not known about.   I got these facts from Autismspeaks.org.

I went to a meeting this weekend and I saw a young girl who I knew had something wrong with her.   I couldn’t know for sure.   I know the father very well he is in my international Club, Starfleet Command.   I even know he does a great Fundrasing event for the month of April!  We discussed this in lengths and he told me about how much money he is looking to raise.  I told him, everything is possible to possibly help his Daughter and help others who might need the help with Autism.  So I am wanted to share a few resources and places you can go to help with Donating your money or showing support for the cause!

http://www.trektoy.com — does a great job at making an effort and giving people a chance to give out some really nice prop gifts from the movies and shows of Star Trek!  The Owner I know, and you now know him!

Cafepress — has two ways you can raise awareness and/donate to the cause.   You can buy the Autism Gift ideas T-shirts, and items .  You can always buy Starfleet Command and Star Trek items (ALL profits from the sales at this store are donated to Autism research) from our Cafepress page.

Amazon — Has some great ways to show awareness to your community about either your child or someone you may know.   Most of the items are really cheap.   From Magnets for your car to wrist bracelets! If you are trying to learn more about Autism, You can find some great books about Autism and Asperger Syndrome on Amazon also.

What is Autism?

I am sure before I leave I have a few people ask me this question.   So I will answer it now:

Autism is a developmental disorder that appears in the first 3 years of life, and affects the brain’s normal development of social and communication skills.

You can find out more about it from the National Library of Medicine.  I want to help my friend fundraise and thus this post is to help him get more people to donate items and money to his cause.   Please consider donating an item or donating money for his cause.

Thank You!

Why I joined Starfleet-command and How you can too!

The History Of Starfleet Command!

October, 1974 Starfleet Command, an international Star Trek fan club is founded in Lufkin, Texas USA.
Starfleet Command (SFC) is at the forefront of Star Trek organizations dedicated to space exploration. A fan club where friends come together to share their love of science fiction, science fact, and for some a chance to dream of being a part of the Star Trek universe.  [Via Website]

Star Trek and Me!

Growing up, you really only had a few good shows.   It wasn’t until Star Trek became syndicated that it grew in popularity and thus that is when I was became aware of Science Fiction.   It wasn’t something that I liked to talk about in Middle school or even High school but then I found so much more after I got out of High School.
After High school, I started watching Doctor Who, Stargate, Star Trek, and Babylon 5.  Although these are just the pick of the shows that I like to go back and watch.   It hasn’t been hard to find other Science Fiction Shows that I like to watch also!

Then I found Starfleet Command!

When I joined Starfleet in early 2000, it wasn’t something I thought I would keep doing but I did want to check it out and see what this club was all about.   Then I met a really dear and kind friend Paul Sundstrom, who was so pleasant to anyone and everyone in the fleet.   I couldn’t do anything else but to look up to the man and be amazed at how this club go be so non-judgemental about color, or even your background.   Without Paul’s help in understanding the fundelmentals of what Starfleet was about, I probably wouldn’t of stayed a member.   It was his influence in my life that made me dream about being a blogger and also wanting to help others.   It wasn’t until a few years later that he lost his life due to something that was personal to all who knew him.   God rest his soul, and I am proud to call him a friend.  He was with the Uss Halsey and I will always remember him and work hard at being like him.
I joined because I simply wanted to find others who also like Science Fiction and be part of a bigger picture.
It wasn’t supposed to be this FUN, you’d think it would be boring and no one to talk to but you’d be wrong.   I’ve worked hard and enjoyed it all the way.   I never will regret my decision to stay with Starfleet Command and help them out as a Deputy Chief of Information Technology.   That however has recently changed from being the Deputy to actually being the Head of the department.

How you can Join?

If you want to be part of something bigger and better than you can imagine then it is time to think about Joining Starfleet Command.   Maybe you want to make your own ship or even join one of the many Ships that are out there.   You don’t have to be alone, it can be something fun or interesting.   What ever you decide you aren’t alone.   You have me, and I’ll be more than glad to help you and talk to you.   If you have a question, I’m here for you.   If you want help, I’m here.   I want you to be part of this group and make history in more ways than one.   Be apart of the excitement and make a difference in someone’s life by joining!

Week away from work!

Every now and then I’m in a position to take a few days off at work because of something going on in my family, distant and close family.   I’ve got a Sister that I have been helping these past few months with anything and everything that involves my oldest daughter.  Allyson, I’m sure you might not know who but she is my oldest daughter and has Cerebral Palsey.

Cerebral Palsey is an umbrella term encompassing a group of non-progressive, non-contagious motor conditions that cause physical disability in human development, chiefly in the various areas of body movement.

As you can see she is always smiling and happy, I’ve never complained about her to anyone.  I never really knew what people went through when they have a special needs kid to have to raise until recently.  Everything I’ve done this week is to help my sister, who is taking a week long vacation and who takes care of Allyson for me.  I must say when she offered to this, I didn’t know how she was going to do this but it has been a real blessing in my life because of all that is happening in my personal life.

This week was a Handful!

I’m not saying it has been all bad but it has been a really busy week.    I didn’t know what to blog about on my Friday post but I thought it would be good to tell you some stuff about me so you can understand where I sometimes come from when I blog about topics!

  1. My Hometown is Hopkinsville, KY.   This will always be where my heart is.   Nothing else has ever been anywhere closest to my heart than that little city!
  2. I’m a University Of Kentucky (Affiliate Link) Fan, I’ve got Hats and Umbrellas that say UK all over it!  I don’t watch all the time but when I do, I don’t stop watching for the game.
  3. I am in a Club call Starfleet Command, and I am always helping them with their website and other such things.  I simply love this group because everyone is so nice and we all like Science Fiction.
  4. I simply love to watch Japan Animation.   This is simply best part of how to draw animation.   Some of my favorite shows and movies  are Naruto Shippunden(Affiliate Link), Howls Moving Castle, Ponyo(Affiliate Link), and anything that has a lot of action in it.
  5. I’ve got High Blood pressure.  My Blood Pressure isn’t extreme but it is higher than the doctor would like.   He always says I should get more exercise but I really don’t have time for it or like it!
  6. I’m a little Over weight, again that goes back to my blood pressure problem.   They seem to be hand in hand, the doctors is constantly telling me to start exercising.
  7. I’ve got Dyslexia, it was much harder in high school with this problem than it is today.  I’ve worked hard to keep under control and I can now read and write much more proficiently than I could when I was young.
  8. Number 8 is of course about my CP Daughter!

I’ve done this to let you into my life.   If you would like to see more pictures of my 3 adorable kids, please leave comments below.   I’ve had fun doing this post and I hope it helped you to see a part of me that a lot of people never really get to see all the time .   I’d love to hear your comments and questions, please feel free to contact me either through the comments or through email(paul at this domain).   I hope you have a great Friday and remember to pass it on to others where you can!
