The End to all Games : Ender’s Game Review!

Ender’s Game

I was all set to go see the movie Ender’s Game!  I even talked about it in May that I wanted to go see this movie but I will say I wasn’t expecting this to blow me away!   I will say this before I get to far into this and spoil it for anyone.   If you haven’t seen the movie and you hate spoilers, please move on and do not read anymore.   I doubt I will be able to not spoil it the plot.   If you haven’t read the book, Ender’s Game and you have an Android, then you should read the book either before or after the movie.   It will help explain some of the things that was not touched on in the movie.   Some of the common questions that I had were quite obvious:

Did Petra Arkanian (Hailee Steinfeld) fall in love with Ender Wiggins(Asa Butterfield)?

The Backstory about Valentine (Abigail Breslin) and Peter (Jimmy ‘Jax’ Pinchak)?

As you can see this is answered in the books more or less, but I will not spoil some of these questions by answering them to my readers.

In the moment when I truly understand my enemy, understand him well enough to defeat him, then in that very moment I also love him.”  —Orson Scott Card

As we start off the movie, that is the quote you see on the screen.   This quote is monumental to the book and movie, because you will see the conclusion of that quote from beginning to the end and understand just how hard it was for Ender to do what he did and see his agony when he discovers a very fatal secret that was kept from him and his team until the very end.   That I will not spoil because it is a key story plot that must be read or watched to fully understand the outcome of the full book or movie.

Character Development

I couldn’t blog about this without at least touching on the characters a little and talking about them.  In the movie the development of Ender Wiggins and how he got where he got to was constantly changing and increasing in difficulty due to the need for him to be a leader.   This was about him and this battle with the bugs as some would say but it was also something that in the movie was never forced upon you and it kept my attention.   The details they used on the big screen were in essence almost exactly the same in the book.   I doubt I was the only one but I saw each chapter on the screen as it was playing and it was like a WOW moment when I realized that.   They created the movie almost like the book, chapter by chapter and I am impressed.

We had some big name actors Harrison Ford from Star Wars, Abigal Breslin from various films like “Definately, Maybe” and “Nim’s Island” and ofcourse Ben Kingsley who played in Iron Man 3.   Each one of them brought a unique presence to the movie and helped draw you into the story line.   I must say I was impressed with their abilities and how they made you believe they were who they said they were.

Graphics of Movie!

I must say they didn’t over do any of the CGI and I am quite curious how they actually did the Zero Gravity, and all that.   I cant’ wait to see the behind story of all that because it fascinates me and makes me wonder if it was some CGI and some actual weightlessness that they did to makes you believe they were actually in Zero Gravity and not on earth.   I won’t go any farther than that to try to not spoil it for anyone but it was very well done with the Graphics and the battle scenes were actually believable.

Conclusion

I have talked about this as thoroughly as I could without giving any major plots away and it is rated PG-13 with minor violence and VERY little language.  So it is up to you who you will allow to go see this movie but I have to say if you read the book you won’t be surprised at anything that you see in the movie.   I do think this movie is a MUST “Go See” and the idea of boycotting this movie because of the Anti-Gay ideas of the Author is simply ridiculous because every writer who ever wrote anything has some view or idea that you may not like and it is hypocritical to think you can change who he was just by boycotting a good movie.

Top 3 Science Fiction Books to Read on the Android! (Authors Included)

Attic Clearout

Peter F. Hamilton

One of the best Science Fiction Authors I have read in the past few months.   I’ve started to read the Pandora’s Star and can’t get enough of any of his books!  He keeps me wanting more from his books, and nothing keeps my attention like his books!

P2160004

Orson Scott Card

With the Movie Coming, Ender’s Game is one of those books you must read and then maybe even read other books by this author.   I am getting ready for the movie but would love to know the story and more!

The Hunger Games.

Suzanne Collins

If you loved the Hunger Games Movie then the Hunger Games Book should be on your list of books to read to get ready for the Catching Fire Movie coming out in the coming months.  If you haven’t read any of her books, it should be one of the many you may want to read next week!

As you can see I have been getting ready for some movies that are to due to hit the theatres next few weeks and I simply love some of these movies and thought it would be nice to see the differences.  So if your like me, these are something that must be read in order to understand the movie plots!

Star Trek: Into the Darkness is better the awesome! (Redone)

Got off from work!

I really wasn’t sure if I would be able to get into seeing this movie. I’d thought this would be packed and no available tickets. I was surprised to see how sparse it was at the theatre. I admit I went right before the 5 o’clock rush hour. I really thought it would be a line of people waiting to get into the movies. I was disappointed about that particular dream. I wanted to think this movie was going to draw people in like Star Wars did in the 1980’s and 1990’s. It was only a dream, I guess.

May contain Spoilers!

I won’t say this will be a total spoil free review or even a try to prevent this. It is after all going to spill out because I can’t really make points without talking about the movie. So if you feel you can’t take the spoilers. You best bet is to go to another email. I am sorry but that is just me!

From Iron Man to Star Trek

When I first started talking about Iron Man 3, I got a lot of activity from people who wanted to know about Science Fiction. I did know I wanted to go see the movies and thought this email group would be good for that. So I thought about it and wanted to make it a possibility. Well you are looking at it now!

Physics and Enterprise

Upon starting off on this movie, their is some great scenery of a people we have yet to encounter in this great Star Trek universe. That being beside the point we also see Enterprise under water with pounds of pressure on the ship. I really can’t say if this is possible, but if we really did the math on this. You would be saying “Hmm” too. I am sure the ship wouldn’t be able to survive. If I remember right Gizmodo did something similar to with Kirk surviving jumping out of a moving motor vehicle. I fancy myself as being logical so this kind of thing did strike me rather peculiar that they thought this was a possibility. Role

Reversal Roles

If you haven’t seen the movies or the shows then you might not get how some of the roles that happen in this movie were completely reversed. I won’t say the names but I actually loved the concept of this. We do however get to see a small glimpse of Leonard Nimoy but it wasn’t like he was their the whole movie. Just a scene or two with the other Spock. We also get to see a glimpse of how the Chain of Command is supposed to work and why it is a necessary evil to some and others it is just necessary. I honestly believe this movie had some great examples of this throughout. We get to see Kirk saving Spock, and Spock saving Kirk, a rather symbiotic relationship. Not knowing who will actually save the day. Kept me on the edge of my seat all through the movie.

Enterprise NCC-1701

The Enterprise is a beautiful ship. I love how J. J. Abrams did the ship and a lot of the CGI that came along with it. You almost wish this was the ship we saw in the old series. You long for the day that we go back to where everything began. I must say the time paradox has resolved itself nicely. It isn’t as pronounced as it was in the first movie but you still get the feeling something isn’t quite right.

Final Thoughts

I will recommend this to anyone who likes Star Trek and Science Fiction. If you liked the first movie, you will definitely like the this movie. I do hope I didn’t spoil it for anyone. It was just some total good and nice that I will be buying this when it comes out on DVD or maybe the just the Digital version. If you know someone who might like this movie just let them read this themselves and maybe helped someone find the pleasure of Science Fiction.

Why I joined Starfleet-command and How you can too!

The History Of Starfleet Command!

October, 1974 Starfleet Command, an international Star Trek fan club is founded in Lufkin, Texas USA.
Starfleet Command (SFC) is at the forefront of Star Trek organizations dedicated to space exploration. A fan club where friends come together to share their love of science fiction, science fact, and for some a chance to dream of being a part of the Star Trek universe.  [Via Website]

Star Trek and Me!

Growing up, you really only had a few good shows.   It wasn’t until Star Trek became syndicated that it grew in popularity and thus that is when I was became aware of Science Fiction.   It wasn’t something that I liked to talk about in Middle school or even High school but then I found so much more after I got out of High School.
After High school, I started watching Doctor Who, Stargate, Star Trek, and Babylon 5.  Although these are just the pick of the shows that I like to go back and watch.   It hasn’t been hard to find other Science Fiction Shows that I like to watch also!

Then I found Starfleet Command!

When I joined Starfleet in early 2000, it wasn’t something I thought I would keep doing but I did want to check it out and see what this club was all about.   Then I met a really dear and kind friend Paul Sundstrom, who was so pleasant to anyone and everyone in the fleet.   I couldn’t do anything else but to look up to the man and be amazed at how this club go be so non-judgemental about color, or even your background.   Without Paul’s help in understanding the fundelmentals of what Starfleet was about, I probably wouldn’t of stayed a member.   It was his influence in my life that made me dream about being a blogger and also wanting to help others.   It wasn’t until a few years later that he lost his life due to something that was personal to all who knew him.   God rest his soul, and I am proud to call him a friend.  He was with the Uss Halsey and I will always remember him and work hard at being like him.
I joined because I simply wanted to find others who also like Science Fiction and be part of a bigger picture.
It wasn’t supposed to be this FUN, you’d think it would be boring and no one to talk to but you’d be wrong.   I’ve worked hard and enjoyed it all the way.   I never will regret my decision to stay with Starfleet Command and help them out as a Deputy Chief of Information Technology.   That however has recently changed from being the Deputy to actually being the Head of the department.

How you can Join?

If you want to be part of something bigger and better than you can imagine then it is time to think about Joining Starfleet Command.   Maybe you want to make your own ship or even join one of the many Ships that are out there.   You don’t have to be alone, it can be something fun or interesting.   What ever you decide you aren’t alone.   You have me, and I’ll be more than glad to help you and talk to you.   If you have a question, I’m here for you.   If you want help, I’m here.   I want you to be part of this group and make history in more ways than one.   Be apart of the excitement and make a difference in someone’s life by joining!

Reviewing “Continuum” — “Stitch in Time”, New Syfy Original Show!

Synopsis:

Inspector Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nicols) loses everything she has and finds herself on a new mission when she and eight dangerous terrorists are transported from their time in 2077 back to 2012 during the terrorist’s attempt to escape execution.

 Main Characters:

  • Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen)
  • Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nicols)
  • Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster)

The Break Down! (Spoilers)

When I first saw this on Google, I was a little skeptical because of it being from Syfy but I still gave the show a looking at and the ratings on this are through the roof.   What I like about this show is many things.

First things first, All the actors in the first episode were spot on with their acting.   Rachel Nicols made you believe she was out of sync when she goes back in time and thus makes you believe her character is actually from the future.   I love that first part of the episode but that isn’t all.

CSI meets Science Fiction!

<I’m not saying this is for all Crime Scene Investigators fans but this is defiantly a start in the right direction for me.   All the main actors make you believe they know something that you don’t know and thus when you do finally find out you are quite amazed and they leave you wanting more.   I’ve only seen the first episode but the ending of this is what really gets me.   You see the Old Alec Sadler (William B. Davis) walking up to Kiera and introducing himself to her.   So it seems kind of strange because he is always smiling when he sees her!   Which gets me thinking there is something going on that we don’t quite know just yet!

You don’t necessary see anything like you see on CSI with reguards to finding evidence but it has that atmosphere going for it.

Action packed!

This first episode is action pack with scenes where you see Kiera doing a lot of movement and dodging bullets and trying to fight the bad guys.   So you can’t help but wonder what is to come with her.

They leave this first episode with you having many questions that must be answered in the coming season(s) and who is the actual bad guys and who are the actual good guys.   I won’t say to much about this but I bought the complete first season of this show just to keep up with the plot and to see how it goes.   I encourage all my readers to go check this show out and decide for your self but I promise this you won’t regret it!
