I perused the Warntracker and got some of the data to show you just how much this might a be problem coming to all of us.    As of writing this today 3/12/2024, this could become even more people who will be told they are laid off.   The real question is, are you keeping track of your own company that you are working for to help you prevent yourself from getting laid off.   If you are in a big company and you are worried you might be next the best thing I can tell you to do is create alerts for you using Google and have them be sent to you as soon as Google finds out about it.  Google will send that to your email when and how often you tell it to.   As of right now Q1 is almost to the 50,000 employees who have been laid off.

My thoughts

Other than Rio Grand Valley Sugar Growers, All the other ones are probably not normal.   I don’t know about Rio Grand and if they are laying people off due to growing seasons but I do not think this is going to end well for the industry as a whole.  Each one of these are not just tech but are in the Retail, Technology, food, and other areas.  So you can see this will impact a lot of people around the US and the world to be able to find a job.   I’ve talked about finding a job is hard right now, this will make even harder for everyone to do so many people will be looking for work if they don’t get severance pay or some kind of pay.   They will not be able to get unemployment for a while if they are claiming severance and that could cause problems down the road for other workers.  What we will see in the coming months are people working harder for less pay, I am almost sure of that, if something isn’t done and the Fed will probably not cut interest rates right now due to down turn of the economy.  This will be a short blog post but it should show you to at least be watchful of what to come.

Importance of Effective Job Applications

The importance of applying for jobs is more important than ever due to more people applying for the same job.   If you haven’t been watching more and more people are getting laid off and that is causing employers to get swamped with people applying for same job that everyone else is applying for.  It’s a real struggle to find a job for most and all, I am one of those that have been looking for a job for the past few weeks and I have come to understand just how hard it is to get that interview.

The overview of apply for jobs can be quite daunting and challenging for most because you really don’t know where to begin with or where to start looking.   Each person is just a little different and that can be a strength or a weakness, depending on your talents. Now it is one thing to know you are looking for a job but that doesn’t mean you are can’t at least start figuring out how you will do it.

Defining Your Career Objectives

Each person has a career objective whether you admit it or not.  You have some reason why you are looking for a job in area or industry because you want to accomplish something such as more money, more seniority, or even prestige.   You could be trying to get all three or just thinking you could be a better person and that would be only one area where you want to accomplish.  There are several different accomplishments people will want when they are applying for a job.

First thing you’ll need to do is a self assess what is your strengths and identify your talents.  What are you good at?  Are you good at talking to people?  Are you good with your Hands?  These are the questions you should be asking yourself before you start to even consider applying for a job.   You’ll need to take a deep dive into what you are good at and what you where you’re strengths are.  Monster has some great career tests for you to use to figure help you figure out what you are good at and your strengths and weaknesses.  Even if you want to go deeper than that, you should check out Yale’s Self-Assessment and career exploration pages, where they will give you even more enlightened out look of who you are and what you might be good at.   There are to many websites to put in this blog but these are just a few that you can check out to learn who you are and what you are good at.

After you’ve done all that and know what you might be good at, the next step is to research industries and companies that might be good fit for your talents and strengths.   Each company can be different but if you know what you are good at then that’s at least the first part of the battle.  Knowing that you are good at typing or that you are better at your hands can be a big help with where you should look in the company whether it be in productions, office work, driving a car, or calling clients to do check up on what needs to be done to keep them.  The one way I research the companies is use Indeed to research the company and they even have great article on how to do it.   It just depends on how you tailor searching for jobs in certain industry and know that is where you want to pursue your career with.  It’s not going to be as black and white but it should at least keep you on the right path.

Creating an Outstanding Resume

Effective resume writing techniques for job applications can be quite challenging due to the fact that you have to know what the company is wanting.   They may want some specific soft skills, and they will most likely want even more hard skills or you having an education that is a requirement to get the job.   So you should create an resume and then change it when you apply for a job to better help you get that chance for the interview.

Craft a  compelling summary and objectives is something else you will need to do to stand out from each and every other applications.   Each application is going to be different so each resume should be slightly different from the others.   Although this isn’t the always going to work it however is going help you get that proverbial foot in the door as I would say. Highlighting your achievements and skills are the first part of creating a good resume.  You should make sure to have those in your resume to show them how unique you are and what you are good at.      Formatting the resume will help with hiring manager being able to a glance to see what you are are, so you should have bulleted lists or number lists to show them you qualifications and you’re experiences.  This sets the tone of the resume to better make your application stand out.

These are just a few ways for you to learning how to job hunt effectively and this is just the tip of the iceberg because I will be writing about even more of this in the future so you should bookmark my site or better yet sign up for my newsletter and keep watch on those other articles to come in the future.   If you liked this article how about sharing with your friends and family to help support my blog and my efforts.

How to deal with Stress after a Job Loss!

Social Media Camp 2009 By Dean Meyers

Job Searching Stress

Let’s face it, no one can says it is easy to Job search and not be stressed because you need the money or even trying to provide for your family. Stress is the one thing that comes with a Job loss for one reason or another. We will always have stress and concerns and living expenses are always a concern because of not having a job. We can have many reasons why we lost but in the IT industry right now due to hiring to many IT people and seeing they need to rearrange how many people they may need.  I know Job searching right now really sucks and it used to be so easy to find another job but now everything is different.  People not quitting and the IT market not wanting to hire people because of budgeting.   So it is just a matter of time before this all equalizes and IT industry starts to hire people.   I just don’t see this being fast as I may need it to be.

Dealing with Stress

So how do you deal with stress while looking for a job?   I am sure I am not the only one who has asked that the past few days.   I figured I would at least share you how I am dealing with it and maybe it will help with your job searching and how to reduce your stress.

  • Exercise – This has helped me tremendously because exercise gets me tired and makes sure I sleep through the night.   I find dedicating an hour or two of getting exercise daily helps keeps the stress from creeping up on me and it seems to keep from having sleepless nights.  So it is always suggested to get as much exercise as you think you might need per day to help you with your attitude and sleep.
  • Eat a Balanced Diet – Don’t over do it with any foods and manage your food intake when it’s possible and don’t forget to drink plenty of water instead of drinking anything to much like Soda’s and other caffeine drinks.   if you can avoid doing it after Sometime in the afternoon that will prevent you from have a sleepless night.
  • Hobbies – Find hobbies that will help you deal with the stress.  I like to write so this blog is a way for me to keep my stress down by doing something I love to do.  If you can find something that you enjoy doing can make your stress get better over the time you are looking for a job.  This has helped in many ways if you have some hobbies that can you can do will help you.
  • Support –  Find people who can help you deal with stress like family and friends who know your struggle and will give you words of encouragement to let you know they are there for you.  Also they may know of a job or two that you might not know of to apply for.
  • Sleep – Getting enough sleep is always a good idea to reduce the stress and keep you from having stress.  So figure out how to get a good night sleep even if you have to use Melatonin from time to time to keep your sleep regular.   I don’t suggest it every night but I’ve used it once or twice a week when I know I need it but I try to avoid caffeine and stimulants as much as possible during the end of the day to help with my sleep.
  • Limit your Job searching – No matter how much your job searching you shouldn’t dedicate your whole 8 hours a day to job searching because that isn’t going to go over well.   Limit your job searching to a maximum, I suggest 1 to 2 hours in the morning and maybe 1 hour in the evening and applying when you see a job.

Networking

Finally to help with your job searching, I suggest asking people if they know of any jobs that you may be able to apply for.   This is something that helped me with stress also because they can be looking for a job also for me and may find a job that I didn’t know anything about or may know one from where they are working and I may just need to apply for to get the job.

Nothing is set in stone in these suggestions because no one is the same as me and you should should take these suggestions as to how you will deal with stress and what has worked for you but I am sure these will help you even more in your job searching and stress.   What’s something that has helped you in your stress reduction?  Why not leave a comment and tells others what has worked for you.  I am always curious how people deal with stress and how they also are dealing with the Job Searching.   Don’t forget to like this post and also tell people who might need an encouragement that they aren’t alone in this job searching.  We’ll all in this together and you aren’t alone in having to find a new job.

Microsoft to Cut 5,000 Jobs Starting Today:

There are reports that Microsoft will start laying people off starting Today Jan 22, 2009.
[ad#ad2-right]

Microsoft said it will cut up to 5,000 jobs in research and development, marketing, sales, finance, legal, human resources and IT over the next 18 months. The first 1,400 jobs will be cut Thursday.

[ViaPcWorld]

I really hate to see this happen but I did suspect this to happen.   I get a feeling this isn’t the last we will see of Microsoft doing something like this.   I would suspect it will become even more than 5,000 jobs.  I will take a guess and say 16,000 will be the total or close to it. If you want to see the other layoffs I’ve talked here are few:

I have several differnent articles about the layoffs but I did speculate they will lay off 16,000 people so I am sure it will happen in the next few months.  Only time will tell!!!

Western Digital To Shed 2,500 people from the workforce!

I saw this on Engadget and had to talk about this.    If you are getting Laid off.   This will be over shortly,  I am sure of it!!!

[ad#ad2-right]Just in time for the holidays, it’s Tickle Me Layoffs. Western Digital is cutting loose 5% of its workforce — that’s 2,500 more people who’ll be staying home against their will. Hey Nintendo, why are you so happy?

[Via Engadget]

This is sad just before the holidays people will have to stay home and worry about the coming year.   I hope they get some help with the government.   Where is the second check that we are supposed to get?
