Vista named #1 biggest tech disappointment of 2007 — by PC World

First PC World gets all up on the soapbox that (until a certain date) the MacBook Pro is the fastest PC the mag had tested, but consider the next step taken: PC World has boldly declared Vista #1 with a bullet in in their Biggest Tech Disappointments of 2007. Ok, sure, we get that it’s “disappointments” and not “crappy products” — the two imply very different things, and it’s hard not to be somewhat disappointed by any product that took the better part of a decade to come out — but if PC World harshing on Vista this bad doesn’t smack at all of linkbait, well, we don’t know what does. Oh, and here’s that link.

I’ve had a lot of troubles with Vista but seriously who doesn’t have trouble with a OS!! Come on, They must only want a Macintosh!

Google is Profiling you, Watch yourself!!

They’re coming and it will be difficult to get away without having one. Google Profiles will be integrated in most Google services so you have a coherent identity and a simple way to manage your contacts.

“A Google Profile is simply how you represent yourself on Google products — it lets you tell others a bit more about who you are and what you’re all about. You control what goes into your Google Profile, sharing as much (or as little) as you’d like.”\

As you can see, Google is trying to make this work with the open social network. So people can see your profiles more clearly. This however worries me. We do not know who sees it and we do not know what they do with this information. It’s something you have to be careful about, because of the possibility of getting your Identity stolen. I wouldn’t put to much in your profile or at least I hope google allows you to opt in or opt out this little idea of theres. What do you think, should we be able to OPT IN or should it be an OPT out?

T-Mobile turns off Twitter

twitter.png

Reports alleging T-Mobile has shut off Twitter for their customers are rolling in. Complaints have surfaced on T-Mobile’s user forum on Satisfaction as well as several other personal blogs and forums. A T-Mobile representative replied to a customer’s service request with this email:

…Twitter is not an authorized third-party service provider, and therefore you are not able to utilize service from this provide any longer…. T-Mobile is not in violation of any agreement by not providing service to Twitter. T-Mobile regrets any inconvenience, however please note that if you remain under contract and choose to cancel service, you will be responsible for the $200 early termination fee that would be assessed to the account at cancellation.

Is this what you call shooting yourself in the foot. Once people find out they will either complain enough for t-mobile to turn it back on or people will just leave in swarms. What else will they turn off pounce??

Speed Up Your Startup Time with BootVis

bootvis.png

Windows only: Freeware application BootVis analyzes your Windows startup, tracking the programs that automatically run and the drivers Windows loads, to show you what processes are slowing down your startup. To use it, just run the app and select one of the options from the Trace menu. BootVis will restart you computer, track your startup, and analyze the results. You can even ask BootVis to optimize your boot time, but I’d suggest hunting down your worst-offending startup apps and disabling them with msconfig if you don’t absolutely need them. Originally a Microsoft software, this abandoned freeware, Windows XP only tool is the perfect tool for troubleshooting a slow-to-boot system.
