Nikki Catsouras being used to spread Malware

I was doing my usual perusing the internet and I came across this site about Nikki Catsouras Accident Photos, I won’t go into gruesome details but looks like the Malware Authors are at it again with trying to have you install Fake codecs into your system.

nikkicatsitepicThese are some of the nicer pictures on the site

I must warn you if you go to the site there are some very gruesome and disturbing pictures of the accident, but that not what is computer related.  On the site they also have a Video that isn’t really a Video.  Clicking that video link pops up this in my AVG warning window:

nikkicatvidofakeThis is the Free Version of AVG

As you can see, the Malware authors are using the accident video to get people to install the Fake Codec to install some Trojan, worm, or even a Virus onto your system.  I’ve talked about this from time to time but if  you need to install a codec from a site you don’t trust.  I don’t recommend this to anyone.   I would keep with the known Codecs and keep away from any site that says you will need to install a codec or tries to install a codec.   I also recommend some Free Antivirus and Free Firewall software to better protect you.  As you can see the free AVG software that I was using did detect this and prevented me from going any further.  So the Free software Antivirus providers are keeping even the most common users safe.

If you did visit that and get the virus, Trojan, or worm, you can visit my Maleware resources to  find tools to help remove this problem.

As of writing the post this seems to be on the Google Trends on May 2.  I will always tell people to go to the trust media sites if they are wondering who this person or what happen.   It looks like they Media is going wild over the court cases right now to take down the pictures.  I am all for the family wanting those picture.  I do hope they take them down.

New address cnuncn.com, old Yahoo email

In my Previous Email about yahoo [intlink id=”3330″ type=”post”]email accounts being use[/intlink]d and then their contacts being deleted.  I recently came across another post about this email but with a new address so I go to the site and see and It looks like the old one:

cnuncnyahooemail

It looks like this site was registered on 9-27-08 and Looks like the other site nekcn.com:

nekcnyahoospam1

[ad#cricket-right-ez]As you can see this looks like the other one, both of them are Chinese websites.  I have heard from one or two users that this is a Scam website trying to scam you out of money.  I am also sure the scammer just started doing this with the emails due to my previous post about this site. I wouldn’t purchase anything on these sites. I have created a Forum area to discuss Email scams like this one and warn others of new scams like this one.   I hope you warn the person who sends this out that they have been compromised and should reset there password.  This is one way to gain control over your account.

Remember there are sites out on the net that [intlink id=”3407″ type=”post”]would like to get your email account or your Facebook account [/intlink]and spam people.  The reason being is that contacts people have with each other are more likely to get through the spam filters to the person.   The Email reads:

Dear friend:

What are u doing these days?I am going to recommend a Eshop to you.Yesterday I found a web of a large trading company from China, which is an agent of all the well-known digital product factories, and facing to both wholesalers, retailsalers, and personal customer all over the world. They export all kinds of digital products and offer really competitive and reasonable price and high quality goods for their clients,so i think you will make a big profit if you did business with them. And they promise they will provide the best after-sales-service.If you are interested to do business with them,in my opinion, you can make a trial order to test that.

Their Web address: www.cnuncn.com or www.nekcn.com

In case someone has a question about this, please feel free to post to Forums and someone will answer it.  It is a good idea to install [intlink id=”2205″ type=”page”]Free Anti-virus and Firewall[/intlink] software to better protect your system.

Facebook Phish : “Look at this!”

Facebook seems to be coming the most widely used Social Website around right now, I went to Alexa to see what it said about how many users go there a day and I find this:

facebookalexa

So No wonder there are a lot of people who want to get your personal information. Yesterday there was a new email that was spreading with the Subject “Look at this!” and it points to fbstarter.com. When you go there you will find it looks really like Facebook but your not really at facebook sign in page. They want to use your Facebook account to gather information about your email account, or who your friends with. They also might try doing the old Scam of asking for Money because they are someplace and can’t get home without your help.  They could also want to spread a [intlink id=”2249″ type=”post”]virus through your account[/intlink], or [intlink id=”2958″ type=”post”]steal your identity[/intlink].

[ad#cricket-right-ez]At the time of writing this the site is active and looks like Facebook but really isn’t.   You should always login in to Facebook the right way by going to:

http://www.Facebook.com

or

https://www.facebook.com

If you have went to that site and entered your password in there, I know it happens to even Journalists.   You can reset your password. This way you can make sure the people behind that site don’t have your password.   I do suggest however you start using a more secure password.  You should always use both Numbers and letters in your password.  Use a different password for each place your signup for.   I suggest [intlink id=”2646″ type=”post”]Roboform[/intlink] to better help you protect your password and it helps make up a secure password for you.  The nice thing about Roboform is that you don’t have to write down your password on a piece of paper, but you do have to remember to [intlink id=”3171″ type=”post”]backup your passwords[/intlink] from time to time.  Facebook is looking to be more and more a targeted for the criminals activity, and you should watch what you do online.
