The Frustrations of Wordrpess 2.8

Photo By Nicholas Wang Photo By Nicholas Wang

WordPress 2.8 was released Yesterday morning, and by Yesterday afternoon people were complaining about it.  Some of the issues seemed to steam from a minor template change in 2.8 to prevent people from editing or using Plugins.

Now I have talked about [intlink id=”3171″ type=”post”]backing up important data[/intlink], that includes your website.   You will never know when that back up software will be valueable and when you need to restore it.

Just like everyone else I have had problems with my ability to update my blog or update my Advertising.  Although unlike others who have a lot of widgets on the sidebar for there users, mine are html and not a plugin version.   Although I didn’t have as much problems as others, I did however have problems with the Back up process.   I used WordPress Database Backup and I had the file that it gave me but the PHPMyAdmin would not restore the database that I was given from the plugin.   So in the process of trying to fix my database, I had a few hours of downtime on my blog.  If your a regular visitor you might of seen the message “Database Error” when you visted my site.  I have since then fixed the problem With the help of my support team to get my website back up and running.

[ad]I know the WordPress Database Backup plugin is good for 99% of people but I am going to assume that with the difficulties of this restore with the PHPMyAdmin,  I will be looking for some other PHP Database editor that will work just as good as that one.  Until then I will be doing a Manual back up of my Database because that way I know of having a working copy of my Database in case of a problem down the road.  If someone has a good Plugin or an Alternative to PHPMyAdmin by all means leave me a comment and I’ll check it out or you can [intlink id=”995″ type=”page”]email me[/intlink] and let me know.

I still love WordPress because of it not being open source and more transportable onto other servers unlike Blogger, but there will always be those bumps in the road.   I will always advise people to backup before doing anything major from a system upgrade to a website upgrade.   I hope others have not had this problem as I have but mine might of been just the luck of the draw with all the problems, you know what they say “When it rains, it pours” but there is a silver lining to this.  I have learned more about website backups then I previously did.

Dark Side of Adsense

As many of you know, I’ve wrote a blog postabout Adsense for Begginers.  I wrote this to try to make people see that Adsense isn’t all that bad.  I wanted to expand on this and talk about the Dark Side of Adsense.

AdSense is an advertisement application run by Google. Website owners can enroll in this program to enable text, image, and more recently, video advertisements on their websites. These advertisements are administered by Google and generate revenue on either a per-click or per-impression basis. Google beta tested a cost-per-action service, but discontinued it in October 2008 in favor of a DoubleClick offering (also owned by Google)

Now we know that Google uses what we like to call a Per Click payment plan, that is to say on occasion you get paid for ratio of page views.  It can be 0.05$ or more, I don’t know how they figure it out but I do know there is more to this than what you see behind the Adsense.

[ad#ad2-right]I went on a journey to find out about Adsense and I stumbled across this post about Adsense Fraud.  I wanted to add to this by talking about why people are would do this even more.

I might not know a lot, but I do know that with the Recession still going on and people are trying to find ways around making money.  Some people have went to the Darkside of the money making idea.

Now we know that Adsense calculates your Pageviews with you click ratio or your Rate of Return.  I know Google has a very good Algorithm to use with figuring out what ads to place for each site.  You see I’ve recently gotten a lot of traffic to my site and all of the sudden my Ads I have on my site are more colorful.

I know Google might not admit it but I suspect they have several levels of tiers for ads.  I would only assume that if  a site has more pageviews, it would mean there is a more cost to put ads on the site.  Now we all know that Ad Space is valuable because the Ad helps drive traffic to the sites that  user or users are interested in.

Why people would want to go to the Darkside of Adsense is no mystery.  It all involves Money, We’ve heard it before and we will always hears this online.  Someone is making a fortune off of advertising a month.  It will be a big sum of money some have even boosted about it, 500$, 1000$. or more.

Making money is always going to be a long term goal, and anyone who you ask will say they worked for that money.  You can never really make money without working, it’s something that everyone has to learn.  You earn it every time you cut the grass or every time you go into work.  It takes three things:

  1. Time — is a component of the measuring system used to sequence events, to compare the durations of events and the intervals between them, and to quantify the motions of objects. Time has been a major subject of religion, philosophy, and science, but defining time in a non-controversial manner applicable to all fields of study has consistently eluded the greatest scholars
  2. Work — is a measure of the work done by human beings. It is conventionally contrasted with such other factors of production as land and capital. There are theories which have created a concept called human capital (referring to the skills that workers possess, not necessarily their actual work), although there are also counter posing macro-economic system theories that think human capital is a contradiction in terms
  3. Support —  is a social affinity in which one person stands with another person, closely understanding his or her feelings.

[ad#cricket-right-ez]It takes Time, yes I do mean this.  You can’t build a big website over night.  It takes several different things to make your website good.  The design is one, the name is another, and lastly it’s your personality that determines the way people will react when they come upon your site.  I’ve learn that the hard way,  when I first started blogging, I never got any major page views.  Then I went into working on my blog.

When I say work, I mean work.  You need to find where your best at and exploit it.  I don’t mean exploit it illegally but I do mean use it to bring out your website.  Like mine, I have been working hard at research finding website others would very rarely come across.    I also want to be able to teach people about blogging and instruct them in the proper way to blog.  I have made mistakes in my time and I can bet I will make mistakes in the future, so I always say that is always going to be a works in progress.

The final thing is Support, if you don’t have support from your returning readers you will never be able to advance in pageviews.  I mean that if your readers don’t recommend this to other people then no one will find out what your really like.  It all depends on the readers, they are who you are writing to and trying to make a connection.

I know I went on a Tanjent and I made this a rather long post, but I hope this helps you understand about Adsense and blogging.  These two actually have a great deal in common.  They both need those  Three steps to succeed.   It all depends on how much you want you accomplish.

Being a Bad BOT!

badbot1

I had the strangest thing happen today, Seemed a Bad Bot was Crawling my pages. I was getting at least 60 page views an hour from this bad Bot!! The individual IP’s of this Bad Are:

65.208.151.112
65.208.151.113
65.208.151.114
65.208.151.115
65.208.151.116
65.208.151.117
65.208.151.118
65.208.151.119

[ad#ad2-right]After the first initial hour of this going on, I started wondering what this bot was doing.   I did some more research into this little bot.   I did find out it is owned by Kintiskton LLC.  (Twitter Search)

Anyways It bothers me that when you do a Google Search for this company, it comes back with no company.  Some people have already did there research and have come up with very little.

I dug even more and some are saying this might be Homeland Security, and I have my own thoughts on this.   I might be paranoid myself but if there is no company out there and the IP keeps coming back, I assume it is BAD mojo.  Some people worry that it is a hacker probing for vulnerabilities and that worried me.

I decided with the Help from Godaddy, to ban the lot of IPs.  I figure someone is trying to get information or trying something they shouldn’t, I’ll stop it myself.   If you have WordPress and are also having problems with this ip, you can ban it by adding this to your HtAccess file:

order allow,deny
deny from 65.208.151.112
deny from 65.208.151.113
deny from 65.208.151.114
deny from 65.208.151.115
deny from 65.208.151.116
deny from 65.208.151.117
deny from 65.208.151.118
deny from 65.208.151.119
allow from all

This is how you block those ip in the HtAccess file. Thanks to WordPress for showing me how.

Understanding Adsense for the Beginner

So you have a website and you’d like the site to pay for itself. That can be arranged it however depends on your website performance. You see you won’t make a lot of money if you don’t have several things going for you. I thought I share with you my experience with making money through Adsense. As you saw, I made enough money to pay for the website for 5 years. It isn’t hard to make money it is however very difficult to keep getting the money. Most people don’t know the tricks to making money with Google’s Adsense.

I’m here to help you out a little with understanding it and getting even more money from your adsense.   So here we are 3 months into to putting Adsense seriously on my site and let’s take a look shall we:

My earnings for 3 months

As you can see I started off quite slowly as I figured out how to best do it but gained momentum after that.    First Month I made $17.19 and the Second Month I made $45.57, the last month I made $64.99 totaling $127.75 leaving me with 16.75$ from the few previous months that I tinkered with Adsense.   So where do you start?  I found that to be the hardest part, because of the complexity of where I could put the ads.   I tried having strips breaking up the text in my blog post that really didn’t get me hardly any clicks.  Then I started to incorporate the Adsense into the posts.  I learned how to do it through a great blog post and I’ll talk about that later.   Here’s what you need to know right now though:

    [ad#ad2-right]

  • Create good content —  This goes without saying that if you don’t have good content people will never find your site.   There are a multitude of ways to create content.   Some of the most useful for me is How-to, finding a Niche, and Also just blogging about what you passionate about.   These will often draw people to your website.
  • Gjaylaramieet people to link to your post —  This will help with search engines because they do some math to figure out if your a real site and how trustworthy your site is on the internet.
  • Use Microblogging —  It is well known people use Twitter, Friendfeed, and others a like to tell people what they post about.   It can be great place to help promote your blog and get people to come more and more to your site.
  • Try not to annoy the users with Ads — This is the most important if you want people to come back to your site you should make sure you don’t send people away from your site.  People will not want to come back if you annoy them to much.   So it is essential that you keep them happy.
  • Find a good blog theme — A good theme helps bring people to your site by making it easier to read and find what they are looking for.  You might also consider making a sneeze page to keep people coming back to your site.  This will help your readers and make it more of your own.  You might also want to buy a theme for your blog sooner or later.

With These tips and tricks you too could be on your way to having a great blog.   I would be willing to bet that soon I will be triple that amount if I keep up with what I am doing.   I hope you tell people about this blog and let people know how good this blog is for you.   Remember only you can prevent virus infections.
