Kubuntu 7.10 Beta

Today I installed the beta for Kubuntu 7.10 and I am surprised how well it worked with the integration of the old and new. I do admit there are always going to be some problems with it. As with anything that says beta you have stuff that always goes wrong. There is this one problem with it that I am going to have figure out what. It says that it can’t update because it is being used.

They updated the Firefox extensions to include ADblock Plus and some very nice tools with Ubuntu. You can download more extensions with this then you could before. Firefox loads a little quicker. It also has several other features that is best left for you to explore.

It Handles the non-free devices a whole lot better. It shows you have a device that can be updated with that little window. If this device is restricted it also tells you this.

All in all I’ve have to give this a pretty good update for Ubuntu, I’ll be curious to see what else I’ll find when I get even deeper into the system. I do know I like the graphics they added. It almost has an XP feel to it. If you would like to know more just visit the website and try it for yourself.

Novell credits Microsoft for soaring Linux sales

Novell says its Linux business has grown by 243 percent over the last three quarters, and it largely credits its deal with Microsoft.

Novell has reached $100 million in revenue from Linux over the nine-month period, thanks to the close working relationship it has had with Microsoft since the two companies signed their collaborative deal in November.

I only have one thing to say, Thank you little Penguin it makes a stand in something that actually works.

Five ways Linux is better than Vista

A user or sysadmin posts about problems with a brand new Vista PC on a support forum. Within minutes, a “helpful” soul suggests a fix: “Install Linux!”

Enthusiasts have always touted Linux as the best operating system, and they’ve become more strident and shrill since Vista’s launch. Despite Microsoft’s optimistic predictions and fervent proselytising, Vista has received a chilly reception in the marketplace.

Yes someone actually thinks Linux is better than Vista. Oh I think Windows is losing battles with itself.

Review of Ubuntu 7.10 (gutsy) new features and changes

Startup and shutdown screens won’t blink any more, so no more watching of a boring black screen even for a second. Desktop theme received some minor updates: some pixels changed at the mouse cursors to make them more eye pleasant. Evolution is now displaying popup at the tray in case of a message arrival. In the file manager an image thumbnails will be automatically rotated if they were taken with a camera. Buttons of the ‘windows list’ applet in Ubuntu 7.10 will stay they original size despite a change of a window title, for example in case of web browser tab change. The very impressive Deskbar applet is initially activated. Microsoft ntfs file system support should be available for reading and writing by default (by ntfs-3g driver using FUSE). Additional set of utilities for manipulation with ntfs partitions such as format, resize, undelete and etc. is accessible via ‘ntfsprogs’ package.
