Summer Time is my Time for Science Fiction!

Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum: Gift shop: Original model of the NCC-1701 Enterprise from the 1960s's "Star Trek" TV series

The Lighter Side of Things!

Last couple of weeks, I’ve really been on a Star Trek Binge.   I don’t know any other way to say it.  It isn’t like I have any other choices.   Shoot with the high temperatures and the heat indices being up in the 100’s, you really don’t have much choice but to stay in.

These are the voyages of the Star Ship (Insert name here)!

With this being a summer for me of unforgettable memories and hard work.  I’d thought I would post some of the shows that I’ve been watching.   After all, I’m sure you’ll want to know which ones I’ve watched and maybe even join the fun!  I’ve got an Amazon Prime account [Affiliate Link], so this is something that might work for you too.

  • Star Trek Shows (Free Streaming w/Prime Membership) [Affiliate Link] — Star Trek Movies, Episode, Next Generation, Voyager Series, and Deep Space Nine Episodes are all available to watch free from Amazon.   So you see, even I can’t beat the.
  • Doctor Who (Free Streaming W/Prime Membership) [Affiliate Link] — Some of the beginning shows from the  1960’s and earlier can be watched from Amazon.  You even get the newer shows for free also.  Go back in time and enjoy this series with the younger generation.  They’ll love it, my kids all love to watch the Doctor Who Series.
  • Stargate (Free Streaming w/Prime Membership) [Affiliate Link] —Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe, and Most to all the Movies can be watched for free.

I could go on and on about the shows that I’ve been watching but that would just be a list a mile high.  I will recommend people buy the Roku 2 XD Streaming Player 1080p [Affiliate Link] to watch these shows instantly on your Television sets and thus having Netflix also can help you get the most of streaming media.

Do you have a Tax program for taxes yet?

Tax Tax (Photo credit: 401K)

Tax season is upon us!

If your like me, You always dread doing taxes because you never really know what you will get back or if you will. I know I have to worry about everything from being audited to how my commissions did with my website and if that wil make a big difference or not. Nothing can be said for getting them done.  If your like me you some times get into a cold sweat worrying about all this stuff.   I know sometimes I even worry about my next paycheck, so I understand all to well of the problems in getting my taxes done.

Help is just a Click away!

I have in the past visited H&R block (Affiliate Link) offices but this year I will do it through their software [Download it NOW] (Affiliate Link).  I used to worry every year about my taxes but after I started going here and having them help with my taxes.   I don’t have to worry anymore with their  Worry-Free Audit support they provide for free with purchase of a Deluxe edition (Affiliate Link)of the software.  I simply have to buy their software and use it and I no longer have to worry because they will give me an adviser for free if their is in audit of my taxes.

Why I recommend them!

H&R block (Affiliate Link)has been their through the thick and thin of making of this website and others.   They even helped use with a tax audit where they paid for a mistake that I did in the past.   That was the something that I had it added on to it was worth the money because it only cost me 29$ if I remember correctly.   They always been professional to me and they even remember my name when I go into their office.    I don’t expect that now since I moved but I do know if I started going to the local offices where I moved they’d start to learn my name.   They’ve always been helpful and I know they would be again if I ever needed any help.

Don’t get caught with your pants down!

I tell you if you do your taxes then you are constantly having to worry about making mistakes and nothing can be any worse than that.   You need to have help when doing your taxes and that is why I recommend  using H&R Block (Affiliate Link) to help do your taxes, if you can’t afford the paid version, the least you can do is use the free version but that doesn’t pay for the state taxes, those you will have do worry about separately.  I will always use H&R block for all my tax needs whether it be at home or going to their office to do my taxes.

Being more Honest with my Affiliate Links!

Testing the Waters!

A friend told me, a couple days ago that I should be telling my readers when I have affiliate links.  He said I would would get even more sales if I were to be a little more honest with which ones are actually the ones that I make money off of!   It would better help those decide if your going to be a a good blog or not.   I really didn’t have much to say on the matter because I didn’t know what to say. I am sure there will always be those who will not tell you.   I thought it was quite obvious when I didn’t tell you but then I forgot I was hiding my affiliate links, not to be dishonest but to prevent programs and virus from taking away from all the work I have done.   I know there will always be people who will got the site directly and not give the site the credit.  I understand that, and somewhat expect that.

Honesty is the best Policy!

That being said, if you ever come to one of my posts and you see the (Affiliate links) or (Affiliate link) then it will be linked to this post.   So you can read about my honesty and understand that I am working really hard at changing.   Here is how this will work:

  • Reviews — I promise to my readers that I believe in the review of the product and that it is a recommendation from me.
  • Reimbursement — Hosting isn’t cheap now a days, that is I put up my Affiliate links and also to try supplement my working income.
  • If Gifted to me — I will clearly state that in my post and my review will no be swayed by the free gift of the item.  If it sucks, you will know about it and if it is something useful then you will also know about it.  I may however have affiliate links for the item.
  • Nicer URLS — even though I have hidden the urls and you have to click the URL to go the affiliate site in question, it is because the URL aren’t really neat and tidy.   If you feel offended because you can’t see URL then please feel free not to click those links.  (I wouldn’t want to see http://www.amazon.com/blah/blah/blah/blah/etc, anyways and I bet you don’t either)
  • Gift Cards — If you are wanting me to review a certain item and it is on Amazon or some other place then I will gladly accept a gift card through email(First name @ this domain).  However if it is something else please don’t hesitate to email me.
  • Review UNITS — Same as Gifted cards, if your wanting me to review an item but don’t know where to send it.   Please email me and I’ll discuss with you where to send it.  (First Name @ this domain)  Please bear in mind that I may not give a nice review, so I make no PROMISES and there are no expectations.

Prove to me!

I’ve done the unthinkable and stopped hiding all my links on this site.   So if you want me to continue to do it this way,  I will need to see a positive out come.   I was making money hiding sites links and not telling people about them being affiliate links.   Now I don’t want to see a drop in sales and money by being honest.   Help support my love to blog and being able to read about the stuff that matters to you.   Just like Glasses USA (Affiliate link) matters to me because I have to wear glasses everyday and I can’t afford to go buy some really expensive pairs of glasses.   They have been the one source for me, when I need to buy new glasses.  If you find a post that you really think is good, then don’t be afraid to share it on Facebook or Twitter.   Those are one ways to show your support of my blog.

Nothing shows support like sharing a post!

Necessity is the mother of invention. — Plato

This movie was one that I didn’t expect to be so fascinating and also quite educational.   I loved this movie in all aspects of sense, nothing was left out.  I recently talked about the aspects of technology and this movie does a really good job of demonstrating it.  I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.   I even got teared eyed at the end, seeing all the good was done and making me feel like going to Clearwater, Florida to see this Dolphin in action.   Something that was really nice was that they even used said their website on the movie, seewinter.com.   I was curious so I decided to put that in the URL to see if that was a REAL website.

It’s all Family Friendly!

I didn’t expect to see something that was so family friendly.   I didn’t hear any cussing or see anything that wasn’t appropriate for all ages.   Although some people have complained about the first part of the movie where we find Winter showing blood and him being tangled up in ropes.   I didn’t see anything else that  was  questionable.   I think my kids actually learned something of value in movie.

I’d recommend this movie to anyone who wants to have a Family Movie Night.   This is one of those that I really respect what they did to the movie and I feel this is a great way to bond with your kids and sit down and watch the movie together. Dolphin Tale (Affiliate link) is a thumbs up in my book and I strongly recommend it to anyone who might want to see this movie!

Reviewing the Novatel Wireless MiFi 2200 Prepaid Mobile Hotspot (Virgin Mobile)

My Review of the Mifi 2200 Card!

I probably am not the only one who will be reviewing the Novatel Wireless MiFi 2200 Prepaid Mobile Hotspot(Virgin Mobile) card (Affiliate link).   I do however have used this card for over 3 weeks and I wanted to give you my opinions on this.  I know I originally bought this for a really good deal for $69.99 and I said a few weeks ago that I was going to talk about this little card.

Technical details:

  • What’s in the Box: MiFi Broadband2Go Prepaid Mobile Hotspot, AC charger, USB cable, battery, carrying pouch
  • experience faster average download speeds of 600 kbps – 1.4 Mbps
  • Ready-to-connect with no software to install
  • Universal Wi-Fi for ultimate compatibility
  • Connect up to 5 devices simultaneously

Observations on the Mifi Virgin Mobile!

I have had several weeks to play around with the Mifi card.   I must say that I am really impressed with this.   I don’t have a lot of options on having broadband in my neck of the woods, so when I found this on sale.   I really couldn’t help myself because I could now do what I have always wanted to do.   Having internet where I am live and be able to blog more readily available to me.

Pro’s:

  • Stream Hulu, CBS, NBC, Royal Pains (Affiliate link), Mythbusters (Affiliate link) and Netflix!  (Might require less quality and some buffering but I had no problems watching what I wanted, when I wanted to.)
  • Portability of having WPA connections wherever I went.
  • I even used my Sisters Ipad to stream Netflix and YouTube on the Mifi card.
  • Uses the Sprint Network
  • Can use Linux and other Operating systems with the card.

Although, I don’t stream all the time and thus I am probably not one of those who is going above their ceiling cap they have.   I’ve heard once you get above a certain limit.   Probably 10 gigs or something like that they will cut you off but that is something they will not say for sure.   The 2.5 gig limit will slow your speed down but I’m fine with that.  I haven’t had any problems with the slow down.

Con’s:

  • Battery life — I was able to use my battery for over 6 hours without recharging it but that was with me using it almost all the time.   If you have a long drive or am planning on use it more in your house.   It is best to just keep it plugged in when you use it.  (You can use a Dual USB Car charger to keep the Mifi working while travelling!)
  • Signal Strength — You basically have to keep it close to the windows to get any decent signal strength from the closest cell tower.   I haven’t had much problems with speed but I occasionally have had signal drops and reconnects from time to time.
  • Cricket Wireless broadband — This is just as good as Cricket Wireless broadband but since they aren’t in the are or have 3g services in my area, I had to go with Virgin Mobile.

All in All!

To sum it up, this isn’t a really a bad deal for the price.   Even though the so called “unlimited” is slower than normal speeds after 2.5 gb used, it is probably not going to be any faster than when you use it on a daily basis and thus it is still a good way to have internet in areas where there may not have many internet options.  The Novatel MiFi 2200 from Virgin Mobile (Affiliate link) isn’t a bad choice with a no contract.  I’ll definitely recommend it for those who might just be needed for spots that don’t have internet!
